For centuries, no mathematical innovations occurred under the Roman Empire, simply because their mathematical language was so limited.
They couldn't even express what the greek mathematicians had discovered

I politely disagree with the "ideas that we can't THINK of" part. Humans don't only think using words, but also images. Many times I have an interesting thought, then try to express it using words, but that's only to share it with others. It's already in my head, without words.
