Feeling disheartened (again). What do you do when you see at least 2 other people working on a game with the same theme as yours? A relatively unexplored niche theme at that.

This has happened to me often and the first thing I do is to learn about their game, for two reasons: - To realize their game is actually nothing alike other than the theme. - If not, to steer my design away from theirs.

I've dropped several designs when it felt I was too close to theirs, or their game was already better than what I thought I could do, and that's ok! The time I saved by letting go could be spent on my next one.

Thank you, I know enough about one to know it’s not the same - the other I don’t think has been officially announced but I saw a post in a Facebook group mentioning it. It’s that one that’s killing me as I have no idea if it’s anything like mine or not!

In that case you can ask about it or maybe see if there's any more information about it online. I think I could calm you a bit. It's incredibly unlikely you're both making the same game.
