Precisely. A few are specifically designed, the others are generated by some randomization of stats/elements. Usually those marginal stat boosts take me out of the game and make me reconsider if I want to keep going (often not).

I believe it's more common in MMORPGs and games where the players will be seen by others and have a greater motivation to self-express and stand out.
