Like my ol pappy used to say, "If one fasho sits down at a table with ten other people, it's a fash gathering."https://twitter.com/gamesbymanuel/status/1421073799127179269 …

The poll is now over and I've compiled the main insights in a thread:https://twitter.com/gamesbymanuel/status/1421454592605306885 …
Manuel Correia added,
Manuel Correia @gamesbymanuelThe results are in and they are quite clear. The most voted answer was 5 (41.1%), with 1 not too far behind (35.4%). If you add them together you can see just a few pepes are enough to make 77% of the voters feel unsafe. Here are some insights from this conversation: pic.twitter.com/xUWtGI86pvShow this thread1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

why did you only give options saying it made people feel unsafe and no “not applicable” option? people use pepe all the time in an indie makeup & perfume discord and nobody there is a nazi and none of your poll options apply. extremely unscientific & biased methodology

it’s not a gaming server so maybe there’s a huge cultural disconnect there

I didn't mean for it to be scientific, I was asking my friends and it got out of hand. As it stands, the closest to that was the 10+ option but honestly I didn't care about those for which it is indifferent. I'm talking to and about those who don't.

you’re presenting the results as if everyone is universally disgusted by pepe which is far from true. how is that going to open up conversations that need to happen with people who haven’t been in similar internet experiences? it does the opposite

it’s like when TERFs or nazis have polls with their followers and give no alternative and claim everyone agrees with them and feels kinda gross

What I wrote was: "It doesn't take too many pepe the frog emotes (or variations) to make marginalized people feel unsafe" which to me seems consistent with the results. It's not saying it is about everyone, just about those which pepe makes them uneasy.

Could the question have been framed more carefully? Absolutely. Is it too late to change it? Also, yes. I won't argue further.

not an argument but I am now wondering about dangers of internet naive ppl (esp marginalized) branching further into internet spaces where they don’t know the red flags. branching further especially during continuing pandemic & isolation cycles.

I think that's a big part of why there's been this massive wave of misinformation in the last few years. A lot of people are going online without any filters.
