You've joined a discord server and start noticing some people are using pepe the frog emojis. How many of those does it take until you feel this is not a safe place?

Pepe is very present on twitch, and I think a lot of the user base is younger and probably has no idea of the historical context. I think, primarily, it would alert me to the fact that I am probably just older than a lot of the server.

It's still associated with a lot of deeply traumatic stuff. It's not worth using something that makes toxic people feel welcome.

Absolutely! I am not advocating use of Pepe. But I also don’t research every emoji I use, so I totally understand that some people just don’t know about the connotation. If your question had been about “You have created a server and…” my answer would be quite different.

I asked it this way because I'm between the two. I felt uncomfortable on someone else's server and wanted to see how common that was before I let them know, and before I take some measures on another server I help to run.

I would definitely let them know, provided the person running the server is someone you trust and not someone who will reply as some of the blocked comments.

I'll have to check but I'd address them via private message to avoid causing a scandal. I think these votes are quite telling.
