You've joined a discord server and start noticing some people are using pepe the frog emojis. How many of those does it take until you feel this is not a safe place?

I understand that now, but I've never seen someone consider a community unwelcoming just because they use pepe emotes. On the contrary, I've joined a lot of welcoming communities where they use those emotes just like any other. This issue was never brought up.

... same category as certain infamous terms. Its somewhat inevitable. I am sure that certain words carry surprisingly varying levels of meaning depending on factors such as location, context, culture, etc that someone might be shocked at the very uttering, but not others.
