You've joined a discord server and start noticing some people are using pepe the frog emojis. How many of those does it take until you feel this is not a safe place?

To be honest, if I'm in a chat room and there are Pepe emotes available, I wouldn't think twice about using them, even now after learning about their dark history. I just don't associate them with those ideas, to me they're just emotes like any other.

Now, if someone would express discomfort when I used such emotes in any context, I obviously wouldn't mind stopping using them.

Even today the swastika still means different things in different contexts. For example, it's a traditional symbol of the indigenous Guna people of Panama and Colombia, and is part of their flag which they adopted in 1925.

The key there is on the date.

It is still a religious symbol btw just not the diagonal nazi version, but the original on a flat side. I have seen pendants of it.

Yes, I should have been more clear. I didn't expect the cultures that used it to change. The nazi one has a specific angle and orientation but I wouldn't risk using any version in any of my games because I'm sure it would be misunderstood.
