After a bit of back and forth with engineers, we realized the attic conversion was actually going to cost a lot more than we thought as a lot of work would have to be done to the roof to make it structurally sound. Chatting with Paddy we pitched doing an extension instead.

And to our surprise, it'd fit in our budget. So Caitlyn and I started Design phase 2. This time Caitlyn wanted to try that app I downloaded months previously. Here's the original floorplan, and our new design with as big of an extension we could get without planning permission.pic.twitter.com/HZ4EuOUiD4

It may be a bit unorthodox in design, but Caitlyn and I are both artists, so we're ok with making the house ~34% art studio. We decided to open up the wall into the kitchen, and have that open up into the studio with some French doors. Also, there needs to be plenty of lightpic.twitter.com/Y38Yh9setQ

Since the kitchen wouldn't have any windows, we wanted to add some skylights in the ceiling and a round window from the studio to pull in the light there. We like to think it feels like an art chapel.pic.twitter.com/dyl8RieY2q

And so, after 7 months, lockdowns finally lifted enough for Western Refit to get started. So demolition begins! Photos show the scullery demolition in the back, and the opening of the back of the house for the extension. And the living room to kitchen wall now gone!pic.twitter.com/U86tt1iCyV

After another lockdown or two, it's starting to come together. Extension structure done. And kitchen reveals and walls done.pic.twitter.com/5Oea2nMM80

Kitchen is starting to come together. We ordered oak worktop kitchen counters from Chadwick's. Western Refit starts laying the tile we ordered from http://BestTile.ie . We found the secondhand oak French doors on facebook marketplace.pic.twitter.com/5P42T1cA9A

After 9 months of renovations (prolonged by lockdowns limiting construction), we can finally move back into our house! There's still a few small bits that need finished. And Caitlyn and I decided to do all the painting and wood floor installations to save money. Almost there!

So, we've primed the first bedroom and living room. And now onto learning how to install wood floors. We picked up engineered oak wood floors from http://www.woodfloorwarehouse.ie First floor down!pic.twitter.com/Mxx2Cj5cWy
