Yeah, the "rr" sound is difficult/foreign for English speakers so I have no choice. Spelling my surname in English is so unintuitive that I had to learn it like a song.https://twitter.com/gavinoattes/status/1395258688739360771 …

Since I left Portugal I have only met one person who was able to pronounce it correctly. It does not sound like "Korea".

"Couldn't guess correctly" or "couldn't manage after it was explained"? I've seen and heard enough Portuguese and been surprised at the difference from my expectations to learn I should probably just ask... Is it more of a devoiced 'r' followed by a hard 'H' in English terms?

(If everyone just spelled their names in IPA we could avoid all this trouble. Even fewer people would be able to get them all right but the guesses would be more entertaining!)

In my case it's both. The "rr" sound isn't present in many popular languages so it is an extra hurdle. They try it once, and that's it. Sometimes I can find some other word in their language which matches the sound, but that's rare.
