Last week I finished Yakuza 0 and I'm still thinking about it. What a surprise! It's my first one in the series so I can't compare it to the others but I can tell you a bit about what I liked the most.

The story is engrossing and well presented, jumping between two strong characters on opposite sides of a gritty thriller about organized crime and, surprisingly, real estate development.

To me the star of the show are the side stories. As you walk around the city you will bump into many people that will ask you to help them with something. They all have their own interesting stories, which go from the mundane to the surreal.

Here are some examples: - Getting stuffed toys from a claw machine. - Rescuing someone from a cult. - Distracting a crowd so a human statue can take a leak. - Pretending to be someone's boyfriend so her father will see her as independent. - Training a dominatrix.

These kept the game exciting throughout. I never knew when they would pop up. They create HUGE tonal shifts when compared to the main story, going from a grim drama to slapstick comedy in the blink of an eye, heightening the dramatic moments.

These stories are fairly small but are very important. They give a broader context to the setting and story. They show everyone has something going on in their lives. They show that everyone is worth helping, and that's rad.pic.twitter.com/Rn1Q1iEaMw
