First of all, the localization is stellar. It is well written, funny and taught me about the setting, which is Japan in the 80's. There are so many details and optional activities in the city that it felt a bit like tourism. After a year in lockdown, this was very welcome.

The story is engrossing and well presented, jumping between two strong characters on opposite sides of a gritty thriller about organized crime and, surprisingly, real estate development.

To me the star of the show are the side stories. As you walk around the city you will bump into many people that will ask you to help them with something. They all have their own interesting stories, which go from the mundane to the surreal.

Here are some examples: - Getting stuffed toys from a claw machine. - Rescuing someone from a cult. - Distracting a crowd so a human statue can take a leak. - Pretending to be someone's boyfriend so her father will see her as independent. - Training a dominatrix.

These kept the game exciting throughout. I never knew when they would pop up. They create HUGE tonal shifts when compared to the main story, going from a grim drama to slapstick comedy in the blink of an eye, heightening the dramatic moments.

These stories are fairly small but are very important. They give a broader context to the setting and story. They show everyone has something going on in their lives. They show that everyone is worth helping, and that's rad.pic.twitter.com/Rn1Q1iEaMw

If you're curious about the series, this is a great place to start!

I finished Yakuza 7 recently, first one in the series I properly played and loved it. Planning on starting 0 soon and working through them. Good to hear you had a great time.

Thank you, I'm glad to hear 7 is good too! This one has some flaws (controls, camera, UI) but to me the pros vastly outweighed the cons. It was the escapism I was needing.

It’s my favourite game of all time. I’ve played all the Yakuza games. :)

I can see why! I'm still thinking of all the things I didn't get to do. And I'm not one to replay games!
