Thank you! Yeah, these were taken with kit lens which aren't good at their maximum focal lengths, but the birds would be too small otherwise. "Proper" lenses are way too expensive for me at the moment so I have to learn the range at which these are sharper.

Your kit lens should be around 16-55mm with variable aperture. While not great, unless your sensor is really small or really old you can still get better results than this. You can even cheat a bit by shooting RAW a bit underexposed and retrieve the detail in post.
