Anyone had any experience using the X card safety tool for remote #ttrpg? When you're in a room, you can rely on a physical card and motion to support the non-verbal communication, but how do you do that on a video call?

@BeauJagr you might have some thoughts, but I'd also appreciate a retweet.2 replies 0 retweets 1 likeShow this thread -
If they're using video and the players have a copy of a card, they could show it. Maybe even a hand gesture could work?

I worry that I spend a fair amount of a session looking at notes or books and will miss that sort of interaction. It's also just a lot more awkward to explain with hand gestures (as in making a big gesture is awkward). Maybe getting people to make their own cards is the way.

Also gives them a visual cue to remember that the tool exists.

A way to make it very visible is to turn off the camera as the "gesture", but it only works if you are looking at the screen.

Also easy to be misconstrued as stepping away for the toilet or a drink.

Good point. Maybe lifting their hand so that it's the only thing visible in the frame. "Halt!"
