Low-theme perfect information games optimized for maximum turn angst generally send me running for the hills. I appreciate the craftsmanship, but I already have a job.

That's how I feel about sandbox games where you have to make your own fun.

Interesting. I think I agree, but only partially. I enjoy sandboxy discovery/exploration games, but I need dope milestones to stay engaged. They can be pure nonsense milestones, as long as they make me accomplish something tangible.

I agree with that! Exploration is one of my favorite things to do. The games I had in mind were LittleBigPlanet or Super Mario Maker. I already spend my days making games so when I sit down to play, I want to enjoy something polished. Those games feel like work to me.

I love that they exist, though! They're an accessible way to dabble in game development and could lead to people finding their vocations.
