I'm glad to see it brought up because in my experience the peer pressure is one of the worst parts of crunch. The other is not knowing when it's going to end, especially now that games aren't really finished when they're released.

Even if it isn't mandatory, if everyone is staying late you don't want to be the first to leave. They didn't even let me take a day off to go to a family funeral, ffs. I went anyway.
