For example, you can get into combat encounters in the overworld that will sometimes drag in enemy goons from a block over. So when you've dealt with a group of enemies you were initially fighting, you'll have to take so many turns to get to one random mob who got pulled in.

Combat encounters in general can be fantastic under the right conditions. Assaulting another boss's safehouse for example, it's intense and really great for making you get the most out of your gangsters special skills just to try and survive intact. But...

Most of the other combat encounters you get in the main gameworld, you just rofflestomp them. Once your boss character is leveled up a bit, and you have a good crew, you tend to steamroll anything and everything. There's real balance issues that needed a lot of work.

None of that is to say it's a bad game. It's an extremely good game that is seriously under baked. That's what's so frustrating about it, I stayed up until nearly 6am last night playing it, because when the game is working right, it's downright bloody phenomenal!

I wouldn't have stayed up all night playing it, if there wasn't something genuinely amazing at the core that was hugely compelling and kept me absolutely gripped, there's so much about the game I've been adoring, and the music! Holy crap, is the music ever good.

Honestly, I wish I could recommend the game without giving a cavalcade of caveats, there's so much to love, but there's also so much that's either unbaked or feels missing. Had this been an Early Access title, that might be different, but as it stands? Wait for improvements.pic.twitter.com/PtFN75H6yP

God, there's just so much about it that feels underbaked. Like armor for example. It breaks. No idea how or if it can be repaired? But it just... gets used up. Yet your character still wears the armor. That rare government issue metal lined body armor? That broke 6 combats ago.

Sometimes the AI goes very wonky, far off enemies would just duck back and forth between 2 points. There's so many little issues that go beyond just acceptable jank, and it's such a shame, because as I've said before, there's a genuinely phenomenal game in there.

None of that is to say it's a bad game. It's not. It is a seriously good one that feels like it was pushed out before it was ready, before it was properly balanced, before bugs and issues were worked out, and before features were implemented. It should have been Early Access.pic.twitter.com/b74XYGS7Fq

I really want to be able to recommend this, so hopefully it gets improved.

I'm still playing it all night tonight, I hope my criticism isn't taken that I think it's a bad game.
