Yeah, teams buying 200+ decks and sharing the best ones just got around the Anti-Spike design.

Epic Card Game had a great take on the business model but a terrible rulebook and it was hard to get people to play. The ones who would care about a Magic-like game were already playing it.

Yeah, I think the non-ccg games will never really hit it big like the CCG ones. The incentives for retailers to support them are just not there and player retention gets really hard when there isn't large scale competitive play.

I would love to see a game that proves me wrong but I am not optimistic.

I did like the LCG model, it was a lot consumer-friendly but eventually also becomes daunting to catch up on.

True, competitive LCG's did at some point arguably become more expensive than many CCG's since there isn't really a singles market. I think the LCG has found its home in the co-op LCG's and I suspect this will be where it thrives but we'll see. It's certainly consumer friendly.

I disagree, unless you're talking about starter decks or playing at a completely casual level. The cost of a full set of an LCG vs CCGs is drastically different.

I guess it all depends. A budget modern mtg deck will likely set you back less than a 100€ and will never rotate. It won't be extremely competitive but at least at my local shop a mono red burn deck is good enough to go 2-2 or 3-1 on occasions.

I won't argue with that. I was more arguing that the real cost of playing might end up being higher but this obviously depends a lot on how you play and how often you want to switch what deck you're playing.

That experimentation was a big draw. I played several LCGs and never bought more than one of copy of a core set. They always gave me enough cards to experiment and try every faction without having to chase cards. I'm done with the CCG business model.
