The main thing I'm looking for is dedicated threads for each project so that people can follow them easily. Not a chat feed or a facebook wall that keeps changing order.

Facebook, Discord, Reddit and Twitter are no good for archiving long term progress on projects. The posts are individual and constantly getting buried by new posts, upvotes or algorithms.

I haven't found anywhere that wasn't just full of noise. I've decided to just settle on a small local community: there are 8-9 of us, we know each other's projects, and it's very tight knit.

That sounds great! I do tend to gravitate towards or create groups like that but didn't have the time to do that between the relocation and the lockdown.
