I did not decide this. Romance writers and creators and fans decided this. people who don't write or create or read or enjoy Romance trying to redefine the genre is rude! Romance as a genre is seen as less artistic or deserving or easier to create than other 'real literature'

just like how literary fiction looks down on speculative fiction. Some of the best character writing and progressive attitudes towards female characters I've ever seen is from romance novels

I remember when a popular rom com was slated to come out there were threads Romancelandia Twitter about who was going to bite the bullet and go to the cinema first to see if the film had a happy ending. these advance scouts were being celebrated for their services to Romance

because if it didn't have a happy ending there were people who didn't want to endure the sad feelings. I remember people asking me 'well why can't it be a Romantic movie if it has a sad ending' I don't make the rules!!
