The game I like the most with the best mechanism-theme integration is probably Burgle Bros by @tfowers. What games would you say integrates theme and mechanisms well?

Oh, Modern art is a really good choice! I love it and it makes a lot of sense theme-mechanism wise. I haven't played SHCD, but from what I've read it sounds like it should fit well as an answer to my questions. :)

SHCD might be the most thematic game I can imagine. You're going around London, investigating, interviewing characters, connecting the dots. The game ends when the players agree that they've cracked the case - and they might be wrong!

Does time exist in the game? I mean, do things change as players move around in the game due to and not due to what players do?

In a way, time moves forward. You have to take note of each place you visit and at the end you compare it to how many Sherlock did to get a score. It is written so that later entries acknowledge things you did/learned before. Things don't change as you play, unless scripted.

We're really enjoying it, it's fun to talk through it, check if our hunches make sense, and there are twists as you investigate. Would recommend. :)
