Does time exist in the game? I mean, do things change as players move around in the game due to and not due to what players do?

In a way, time moves forward. You have to take note of each place you visit and at the end you compare it to how many Sherlock did to get a score. It is written so that later entries acknowledge things you did/learned before. Things don't change as you play, unless scripted.
