Day 27: Solo game Here's a game which is 1-2 player (I think there might be a weird 3-player variant too) but works best solo, and is one of the better solo play experiences I've had so far. It's Superhot: The Card Game.pic.twitter.com/9UL7fPmb7N

I've only played a few games that are purely solo. Dawn of the Zeds, Friday, Shephy, Deep Space D6 - they're all alright but not so dazzling that I felt particularly impressed by them. Dungeon of D could be a contender but I haven't played it enough to be confident in my opinion.

Co-op games then? They aren't specifically solo but most *can* be played solo without any changes. Well, that felt disingenuous somehow.

In the end I compromised in choosing Superhot, in that it's 1-2 (or 3) player, but best with 1.

I've only briefly played the real (digital) Superhot so I can't compare them in any useful way, but I do like the way that the card game implements the idea of you constantly being in motion, moving past threats.

It's a deckbuilder, but the centre row is a chronological succession of threats lying ahead of you, and the more actions you take in a turn, the more of the row of threats will reach you (and attack/inconvenience you).

If memory serves, you only get a single use of each card, so it's a tricky balancing act of working out how to get the cards you want into your hand without overreaching and leaving yourself open. It's hard to describe but works really well once you get your head around it.

It's also a rare example of a game where the 2+ player rules seem to be an adaptation of the solo rules rather than the other way round. So that's today's game - Superhot: The Card Game.pic.twitter.com/Ew1DfFHViL

Designer here, you are correct! The game was based on another solo design called Agent Decker.
