Not sure why Tellstones got such a vitriolic reaction. Ive def see loads of current simple tedium get praised and this is no different. I also know the audience for it but failing to find the words to describe it. Shobu butts up against that line. They buy rare-stone domino sets.

It's due to anchoring, fomo and a mismatch of the audience. They set expectations for something else with their first game and it sold out very quickly so people ordered this before knowing much about it. Got a crowd expecting miniatures and gave them a simple abstract.

If you check League player reactions, most are positive. Eg comments here https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/itygok/tellstones_kings_gambit_tutorial/ … Most of the complaints come from the board game crowd, which in fairness is only a subgroup of their audience.

Thank you for the insight. Good point about their target audience, it looks like they added several worldbuilding elements that add to the League of Legends lore.
