I'm so saddened by the bitterness and resentment I so often hear from Spanish game developers, caused by terrible working conditions, an unstable job market and insiduous corruption. Y'all deserve better.

Do you have an idea on how the Portuguese game dev industry may be like? I wanted to go back to the peninsula to work but I’m afraid of the conditions I might face.

I heard there is a budding games scene in Lisbon, due to recent government programs and a tax system that is similar to the UKs. @johnokane @Robin_B we used to joke about moving the UK and Irish games scene there, but do you know of anyone that actually did it?

i'm not in contact with any other local games ppl but apparently there are some, and i'm not benefiting from any govt programs. the tax system is fine though (if labyrinthine), unlike spain where you do not want to be self-employed

My insight is limited because I've been away for almost 7 years now but I get the feeling that it is still similar to how it was, which is not very encouraging.

The government (and country) does not take game development as a valid career choice. There are a few studios and a lot of very talented people working independently. The most ambitious people either left the country or are working remotely on international projects.

It feels several steps behind Spain, who at least has had several success stories and other branches of international studios open shop there.
