Random thought and question - are there boardgames that use actual photos than illustrated artwork?

Yes, sometimes licensed games from movies and shows use stills and there are even some high profile games that mix illustration and photos in odd ways.pic.twitter.com/6iQ75nkfVi

That's so cool! I was thinking photographs would be a slightly faster way to incorporate art but it would be limited to a lot of factors - location, subject, weather, etc.

Yeah, it can work with realistic themes or IPs. Some players really don't like them.pic.twitter.com/lmD3OGfqSB

I can imagine haha, reusing popular images can send a message of lazy assets production :D

I think the main problem is that the images can end up looking very disconnected from the game. Some may call it lazy but I imagine it's more a question of the license owner or the actors wanting to control how they're portrayed.

Ah. Yeah, that is a challenge. I was thinking more in terms of taking photos specifically used for in a game. Like it a game about...postcards perhaps?

I don't see a problem with that. This game, Sunset Over Water looks so much like that that I had to check if they were illustrations.pic.twitter.com/fdWf2ZcgB5
