I saw an interesting question on FB that I'd like to ask you too. If you're multilingual, how do you decide what languages to buy your board games in?

My answer: Tricky question. When I was in Portugal there were rarely any translations or portuguese editions, so there was no choice but to get them in English.

If it's a game to play with my family I try to get it in Portuguese. For Codenames I sold the base one and got Pictures because it's language independent. Now I'm living abroad and I get them in English.

I've found that at least in Portugal, people who were already into games were comfortable with English which made this easy, I guess. Some people made/downloaded translations which they could cut and sleeve alongside the components, but that was rare.
