The focus on combat/loot is a big reason why I haven't tried many TTRPGs.

There are a lot of good TTRPGs that don't involve combat/loot at all and I hope you get to play them :)

One of my favourites is Follow, a game that is about a fellowship on a quest, but is more interested in the wants and interactions of the characters in the fellowship than the actual outcome of the quest.http://www.lamemage.com/follow/

Thank you, this sounds cool! The ones I tried where we didn't really get into combat were Primetime Adventures and Fate Accelerated. I also really liked how they were setting agnostic.

The #1 reason is I don't have a group who would be willing to play them and I'm too shy to try to butt into anyone else's.
