I'm watching some gamers having an argument. Would enjoy some thoughts. Side A: Removing the player's ability to play the game is objectively bad design Side B: Nuh uh.

Side A. This is why output randomness is so frustrating. It prevents me from playing, while playing. I could be doing something else. There are only a handful of games that include these elements that I can stand.

A notable exception is Raptor, where it's part of the design of each turn. Both players play a card with a number and an ability in secret. The lowest one will do the ability, the highest will do a number of actions equal to the difference between their numbers.

There are only 9 cards per player, a player aid details them all and you can see which have been played. If you play the same number, both get cancelled. It's not easy to do and it feels earned.
