I'm working on a Tabletop Simulator video, but it's been a tricky experience finding games/mods worth recommending. Many, many games are very fiddly to play in a simulator. And game length is a real problem - everything takes longer to play. Plus many mods just don't work.

I've had to do a lot of testing to find games that suit the format. Scripting can be amazing when it helps, but sometimes it can make life harder. I had a list of games that were "on" TTS that I love as games, but after testing them, the list has changed completely.

I think that Tabletop Simulator is wonderful, but the lesson is not to play your favourite games on there just because they're your favourites. You'll have less frustration and more fun if you pick games that run smoothly on there.

I've found that tile-laying games work well, because they're big components.. Everyone looking at a shared board, or focused on a personal board is good - it's harder to see more complex board states. I would avoid anything with lots of moving of pieces. It really drags.

I tried the Portal boardgame on there this weekend. The mod had really great scripting that handled the shifting board on its own.

After many attempts, it was my first positive experience with a non-premium mod.
