In Portugal, the ground is paved with limestone, often in intricate patterns that go from geometrical to historical.pic.twitter.com/zRYagJ4MKZ
One crucial thing about this game is the scoring system. If done right it will motivate players to create pretty patterns. Do you like this one?pic.twitter.com/pFguSFbV60
In research for this game I've found a few games that are very similar to what I'd like to do, but I won't let it discourage me! I'll steer it in a different way, focusing on the things that make it unique. :)
New post about the game, which I'm now calling Public Squares (thanks @CLeituga!) which covers a bit about the inspiration, the core concept and mechanics:https://gamesbymanuel.com/2019/05/23/public-squares/ …
New post about the development of Public Squares which covers rules, scoring systems and two other games which are too similar! Oops. https://gamesbymanuel.com/2019/06/23/one-step-forward-two-steps-back/ …pic.twitter.com/LMoKhi8Yi0
Since the positions of the pips seem to always produce the same shapes (X), it's time to question one of the game's core concepts.pic.twitter.com/paz64KSYtl
I still like the concept for this one, wonder if it's worth going back to given the current backlash to roll and writes.
The main problem was that my favorite part of the concept (using the pips as the shapes themselves, chipping away what you didn't want) was creating a very obvious dominant strategy and moving away from that reduces the theme and makes it too similar to other games.
On the other hand, there was a good reception online, a publisher contacted me almost immediately. Frankly, I just want to follow through with this if it brings something new to the genre.
