I have a general tip on how to save money on games: Find out the genres of things you love, figure out the best game you have in that genre, and then evaluate every purchase against your favorites.

Genres don't need to mean 'first person shooters' or 'worker placements' it can mean things like 'games I like to play with my partner' 'games I play to burn ten minutes' 'games I play to feel like a complete badass' 'games I play in bed' 'games I play while commuting'

I don't usually need many games in each general category - every dungeon crawler needs to be evaluated against whether it beats Level 7 Omega Protocol (1vsmany) or Gloomhaven (co-op). Similarly every 'I play this on my PC' game needs to compete with Slay the Spire and Overwatch

This is pretty much how I roll, and I am always disappointed when videogame of the year lists don't have categories like "game to play while listening to a podcast", "best game playable in 30 minutes", etc
