I haven't played Keyforge in months, but I am at Sweden's first Grand Championship because it's Sealed Adaptive using the new set.

Chatting with my opponent afterwards: "I used to play Magic, won a big prize in 1994, got a framed Black Lotus as a reward. Sold it and bought a house. That's why I can't play Magic anymore."

Round 2, lost 2-0. Really fun games though, I'm enjoying the atmosphere of this format since everyone is trying to figure their decks out. No chance to buy better odds.

Went 0-2 on Round 3. Still fun, but it felt like the oxygen was thinning in the basement. Everyone was relieved to head outside for both food and air.

Round 4, went 0-2. My brain is noticeably tired, I am making more mistakes as I go. Maybe I shouldn't be posting the scores, it's getting embarassing.
Oh well, one round to go!Show this thread -
My deck is really interesting and fun to play, but it drags games out. I played against other decks that did that too, which makes the 100 minute rounds seem short for the 2-3 games we were supposed to be playing. Part of it is also due to not knowing these cards yet.

Round 5, same thing so I ended up in 27th place out of 32 players. My goal was not to end in last place so I consider this a monumental success!

The event continues tomorrow, with the finalists duke it out as everyone else plays a 2 deck Survival side event. Which do I bring? Since people get to bring their decks from home I have no hopes of getting far, but it's a way to prolong the fun I had today.

Lost, so I'm out but luckily there's a surprise side event starting now so there's more fun to be had!

Things are going so fast that I could not report but I lost the first game and won the second. My deck seems really cool, I can't wait to be able to use it!

Back home, here are some parting thoughts: It was a lot of fun! Well organized, positive atmosphere and lighthearted players. I believe the chosen formats have a lot to do with this and would like to look into those:

Sealed Adaptive was a good choice for the tournament because it is very accessible. Since you play using a deck you just bought, you're not going to be playing against the most eficient decks your opponents were able to find/buy.

Even if you get a bad deck, you get to use the opponent's deck on the second game and have a chance to bid for it in case there's a third game. It rewards exploration, learning and player skill. In short, it feels like what Keyforge was meant to be.

The only downside I see is that it can take a long time if you play 5 rounds. In the later rounds my brain was mush, but it also had to do with the sheer amount of new cards I was having to learn/memorize on the spot.

The second day had side events for the eliminated players, and I was surprised at how fun those turned out to be. Not everyone came, so the sore losers and the most competitive players were out, leaving only the people who were interested in playing for fun!

2 deck Survival was interesting because I got to see wacky decks, but I didn't expect to go far because they could bring their top ones.

Right after I was out, enough players were available so there was an impromptu Sealed Reversal event.

What that means is you buy a deck and will have to play a tournament AGAINST IT. So you get to learn how your deck plays by watching other people play it. You also get to learn how it feels to play against it, and how to beat it. This was exciting, insightful and fun!

I hadn't played in months and I'm not a competitive person but I'm very glad I went to the Grand Championship. It showed me new facets of the game. Overall it feels like
#Keyforge is in a great shape right now. The new houses are interesting and unique, the new cards are cool.Show this thread
