Lead times in this industry are measured in years. When things transition, it might take time. When new leadership takes over, projects might get canned or reshifted. When licenses r lost projects have to be scrapped or rethemed. All their existing game lines have to be supported

I actually watch for FFG news by what they're NOT announcing. Nikki Valens nothing for 2 years; boom, AH 3rd edition. Corey Konieczka released rebellion in 2016, then a period of quiet, then boom, Twilight Imperium

please be aware that the above is not a foolproof method of game announcement tealeaf reading. But the Mansions of Madness team hasn't released anything in a while. Nate French hadn't released anything in a while, and they just announced his new marvel LCG.

At the end of 2018, Andrew Fischer, head of board and card games, ran an internal game jam. There's no way anything created in November 2018 would be ready for release in August 2019. No way.https://twitter.com/Ethereal_Fish/status/1062120146670706690 …

YESTERDAY it was announced that Corey Konieczka, arguably FFG's most prolific designer, would be starting up his own studiohttps://twitter.com/ithayla/status/1156341305691082754 …

so to me it's completely unsurprising that 2019 is a 'down' year for FFG. For the public, this might be true. But I think they're charging up for a power attack next year. or even next next. Who knows. (but also more TI4 stuff plz. And

a great point by Hunterhttps://twitter.com/WGTabletop/status/1156808957849145344 …

Hunter Shelburne @WGTabletopReplying to @ithaylaCorey is also starting his own imprint, so some things that fell under the FFG banner may now fall under that (stuff with akin to Discover last year). I also doubt we've seen everything Star Wars they are announcing, considering the embargo on that stuff until September generally1 reply 0 retweets 4 likesShow this thread -
but yeah, those are my Thoughts. And now that we know they have the Marvel license (for card games at least) we can expect them to try and push that direction. Games like X-wing, Keyforge, and marvel champions will print *serious* money and let them take chances

Don't forget that Keyforge was a somewhat risky proposition before it became a huge smash hit. hits are good for game studios, even 'big' ones like FFG, because it gives them margins to be creative and experiment with games, or delay releases, not having to hit product windows

oh also I've just heard from a fairly reliable source that they're playtesting new stuff for one of their more major product lines, so we'll probably hear about that next year too.

Thank you for both threads! I don't know why people are disappointed, I see a lot of good looking games and big, bold decisions.

easy to be disappointed when the IFR seems thin and nothing new and innovative is announced. I thought I'd remind people of the gears turning behind the scenes
