The WW2 setting is a tad bland, but it does the job of getting certain ideas across. Big tanks/planes/battleships are big. Ambushes do what you'd expect. Artillery cover acts as a force multiplier. It's functional, which is exactly what this game's setting required.

You're right, even at a glance you have things like planes carrying units from one theater to another. It makes sense. It's only a matter of personal taste. I play games for the escapism and this feels too close to reality.
