Admittedly I get a little annoyed when super famous rock stars put up Patreon’s. You’re already rich and famous with a net worth of $20+ million dollars.

It’s also a bizarre financial move, since it’s basically a company paying 8% of their funds just for a marketing stunt. There’s smarter ways to generate buzz for a new game, and those big publishers already have direct to consumer online stores in place.

It's more than a marketing stunt. It gives them a better idea of how many copies they should print. If they print too many or too few, that's going to cost them a log of money, likely well beyond KS's share.
