Twitter buddies, I have a question for you. A while ago I sketched out a game with the following theme: "You're at a fancy party and the lights go out. When they get back on, two people are missing. Who's the couple that sneaked out?"

In terms of rules it's simple. Shuffle the character cards, take two cards face down and place them on the table. A key thing is I don't want the gender to be a factor. At this point there is no art yet, I'm just working with numbers, symbols and names.

I don't know if it would be considered appropriative for a cis male to be working on it. My intent is just to help with diversity and representation. Should I pick it up again?

You being a cis male shouldn't be an issue at all, imo. Especially when you are concerned with diversity. I remember reading about this game involving genealogy where the devs found out the game became much more interesting they removed gender restrictions (male/female couples)

*when they removed Bleh, twitter needs an edit button. I'm trying to find out which game it was. It involved something about family trees I think.

I remember that one! That was Ancestree, by Eric Lang. That thread went around after I had tested my game a couple times.

I am asking mostly because I see a lot of criticism when publishers release games about other cultures/communities without having any people from them in the team.

I don't think there should be an issues with your game. Even more if gender isn't a factor, could make room for more scenarios. Should at least be worth for a test drive with a diverse audience.

That's encouraging!
Just like @eric_lang , the intended message is "Love is love, and that's ok".
