Twitter buddies, I have a question for you. A while ago I sketched out a game with the following theme: "You're at a fancy party and the lights go out. When they get back on, two people are missing. Who's the couple that sneaked out?"
I don't know if it would be considered appropriative for a cis male to be working on it. My intent is just to help with diversity and representation. Should I pick it up again?

You being a cis male shouldn't be an issue at all, imo. Especially when you are concerned with diversity. I remember reading about this game involving genealogy where the devs found out the game became much more interesting they removed gender restrictions (male/female couples)

*when they removed Bleh, twitter needs an edit button. I'm trying to find out which game it was. It involved something about family trees I think.

Since you're already worried about the diversity problem, I think you are on the right track. Also, research can only be beneficial! I'd say yeah, pick it up. If you need alpha testers I'm in ^_^

Thanks!

If you are passionate about it or feel excited about it, you are probably already invested in it again.

It's just mechanically, isn't it? As in, the lovers can be anyone, regardless of gender, right? That's really just modeling basic reality; as long as you stay clear of stereotypes (i.e. in the art?) There's also always the option to reach out to (paid) sensitivity readers!

Exactly, the couple can be any combination and even though the first prototype used two gendered head silhouettes, there's no reason to keep using them.
