i still remember the first time I loaded up hearthstone to try it out and having being spoiled from years of netrunner, the very first thing I tried to do was click my deck to draw a card. the fact that it didn't let me soured me completely.

i understand that people love hearthstone and magic but the inability to do something as basic as draw a card on command is like asking me to file my own teeth.

'but calvin that's the entire game' yes I know and I hate it.

all you need to know about me as a card game player is that I run as many 'search your deck for X' cards as possible in as small a deck as possible. If there's a way to shave the luck off the game I will find it and laser in as hard as I can.

I honestly find it completely baffling that magic, by design, has a 49% chance of your opening hand being bad to unplayable and yet it remains as popular as it does.

yes i know, different people find fun in different things and that wrestling variance to the ground and pounding it into submission is a form of fun in itself. but netrunner's 'spend an action to draw a card' has completely ruined me for every other card game. It's so elegant.

in the 1 in 10,000 scenario that all the cards I need to win are at the bottom of my deck in netrunner, I can simply spend my entire turn drawing cards until I get them. It sucks but I at least have a choice.

anyway that was Calvin being curmudgeonly about randomness. Next episode, listen for him rant for 20 tweets about how poker is an awful game!

I live in a very specific intersection of gaming tastes where i think that both chess and poker are mind-numbingly boring
