I have such a crazy urge to play/gm more pen and paper RPGs, but with two 3-year-olds it's hard to get together with friends more than max once a week (more often it's once every second week). Playing remote could probably work if I could just find *any* decent software.
I'm very curious about this too, will probably ask you about your findings. :)

Done this a couple of months ago. Then the one who looked most promising was roll20 (at least half my group rejects common computers for the fruit-ones, so several alternatives had to be discarded early for being pc-only), but roll20 was rejected as well for being way too clunky!
