MIT has this lovely month-long "independent activity period" (IAP) and it's amazing! No required classes or admin, just research and short courses in January. It was a great time training new team members in lab. Now back to the real world!

It’s faculty recruiting season at many universities. One of the most opaque and intimidating parts of this process for applicants is the chalk talk. A thread:

Anyone in Boston got a plasmid with p53 (human and/or mouse) that you can share? If not a plasmid, do you have cDNA that you're willing to part with? Bonus points if you have an p53-FP fusion that works! ;)

I'm not a PI (yet), but this seems so spot on. Think I'll tuck this away to reread each year as my leadership roles grow and expand.

...a decade later, tonight, I was explaining basic fluorescent microscopy to my 10.5 year old daughter. After reflection, she suggested I improve the 3-dimensionality, describing a light sheet-like technique that she recommend I adopt. My jaw dropped and I chuckled...

...until that paper I had felt like I had nothing to show for my toil but I had my little family and that was my biggest dream. I know there must be many who feel like they are toiling in obscurity. I hope you can find joy in your work & space for your other dreams...
