It's an issue of liability and accessibility, not specifically stair deaths.

The tube in London is very similar. Not all stations are accessible and even some of the old stations which have lifts still have stairs down to the platforms. Some of them have had lifts put in but it's still not fully accessible

The world is not disability friendly. This is absolutely heartbreaking and should have never happened.
-
Not only it's not disability friendly it's not friendly towards parents with children. We really need to change that about our world or at least about our city and country.

Thank you for speaking out! This tragedy should have never occurred in 2019. I haven’t been able to use the subway since becoming disabled from an accident- we need functioning elevators & gap free platform access for ALL New Yorkers.

Serious question. How is so with the American Disabilities Act?

Where were the people to help her carry the Stoller? I always offer to help while the men walk on past.
-
Why should MEN help?

Americans with Disabilities Act prohits discrimination in transportation. This young woman didn't have a disability I assume but a elevator or ramp should be available. And that no one stopped to help her is appalling. Saying stairs have worked 100 yrs is ignorant and uncaring.
-
It’s not “uncaring...” It’s economics.
