I can concur with new couples but couples that have been together 20+ years better know what each other wants.

it's fine to know what the other wants, the problem is not consulting with your partner before a big financial decision.

I talked my hubs into letting me buy him a car. But the engine was burning oil and the fumes were making me gag. After 6 mos, it was either let me buy a car or I was driving us everywhere in my car.
