Wednesday morning live music report: the Berkeley Symphony feat. every single student at the elementary school matches this note for note. Kids and grownups together, all alright.

Tuesday night live music report: the Berkeley High Jazz Ensemble is full of amazing musicians, with a real sense of jazz both individually and as a group. Add an incredible level of warmth and support for each other and it is clear that the kids are really seriously alright.

This chart sent me into an 00s listening spree, and the algo has reminded me of the unfortunate fact that Bean Dad's band was terrific, among the best of the lot.

A civil rights leader and a segregationist were the two leading democratic candidates for mayor of Boston in 1983 and they agreed on just two things: local control is good and nonprofit developers are the future.

I agree with this and....among the times I feel close to death as a pedestrian, cars turning right on green are a significant plurality. Which is to say, I think, speed is the problem every time.

I forgot: Ban signal phases with permitted lefts across pedestrian crossings. And ban right on red. All the above are common street design choices we make, knowing full well the associated pedestrian safety dangers, all to shave just a few seconds off a car trip.

What's the play for the seller here? Killing customers doesn't seem like a strong business strategy, and if the point is they aren't coming back anyway, placebos are cheaper.

For my first story @latimes, I went to Mexico and got drugs. Specifically, @ConnorASheets and I went to pharmacies, got pills & tested them. Turns out, some are selling oxy & Adderall over the counter – but the pills are actually fentanyl & meth. latimes.com/world-nation/s

I've been hiring for 15 years for a small/medium firm that draws heavily from a few schools. Our committee has never, not one time, considered a candidate's reputation at school or anything about their behavior outside the office.

My ~hot take~ of the day is that the “your law school rep will define the rest of your career” rhetoric has gone, way too far. I know law students who are paralyzed with fear thinking messing up a cold call or disagreeing w a classmate will tank their future. This is not the case

Sir, I grew up a Red Sox fan in the Boston suburbs. As miserable as these seasons are, it's nothing like the emotional burden of cheering in the atmosphere that created the John Lackey Fried Chicken in the Bullpen Scandal.

Paul Pelosi’s attacker David DePape called into a Fox local news station show from jail on Friday, saying he had a message for America: “You’re welcome.” He then droned on with delusional nonsense and said “I also want to say I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I didn’t get more of them.”
