This is the Kafkaesque story of Fady, 25, from Syria: Recognized as a refugee by Germany in 2015 he travelled legally to Greece in 2016 to find his missing 11-year-old brother who was attempting to cross the land border from Turkey. Then this happened: 1/6https://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/fluechtlinge-illegale-pushbacks-in-die-tuerkei-wie-europa-das-recht-bricht-a-4c1cdccf-33ff-4b5d-a0e1-090b6f66f5aa …

2/6 Despite his recognized refugee status, he was arrested by Greek authorities, stripped of his German papers, detained and pushed back to Turkey. He would remain in a state of legal limbo for years before Germany finally reissued his documents in late October 2019.

3/6 Fady is now back in Germany, does the odd job, learns the language. But he is still deeply traumatized both by his still missing brother and his ordeal at the hands of Greek police, Turkish authorities, and German bureaucrats.

4/6 Fady’s case was handled by legal experts of the NGO @rights360 who published today this damning report:https://www.humanrights360.org/defending-human-rights-in-times-of-border-militarization/ …

6/6 Researchers at @ForensicArchi interviewed Fady in Athens in November 2019, before he returned to Germany. Fady helped the researchers reconstruct his misadventure in minute detail using 3D models to undertake ‘situated testimony’ Watch here:https://vimeo.com/442333697

2/They lost everything in Iraq&during the long hopeless wait They experienced the escape journey to rescue their families but they faced the harsh neglect. Their children lost many years of study because of losses. Healthcare was cut since the pandemic. No mention for their cases
