German hesitance in Ukraine war is angering allies. Berlin is seen blocking more proactive steps. In Athens many recall the dictum of an erstwhile Foreign Minister, who had called Germany a giant with the mind of a child. From this week's 1/

Greek authorities say these tear gas canisters are among many handed over by Turkish police to some migrants at #Evros border, to be used against Greek police blocking passage
I need to express my deepest thanks to the hundreds of people, from friends and Greek & foreign colleagues, to politicians, judges, MEPs, NGO actors, and many many other people, who have been contacting me since yesterday in support. It has been very touching 1/
Locals in #Lesvos prevent migrants from disembarking on island „we are Christians here „.- things getting out of control
Now protestors tried to push me overboard at sea for shooting video Bullies and cowards keeping ppl in a boat not even giving babies water Policeman said „I shouldn’t incite them“ #Lesvos A dark day for Greece
Happening now in Kastanies #Evros where hundreds of migrants and refugees are trapped between Greece and Turkey, after Ankara stopped border controls and allowed -if not actively pushed- them there to pressure Europe. Greek police deter any crossing attempt with tear gas
! Scoop: EU anti-fraud watchdog OLAF probe into is damning for the agency's leadership, who are described in a 200+ page report as knowing and covering up illegal pushbacks in the Aegean, as first uncovered by in October 2020 🧵

Meanwhile in #Evros, tensions have not died out, despite multiple reports that Turkey was stepping down & moving migrants back to Istanbul and camps. Video from today showing chemicals launched from the Turkish side landing near Greek forces. Footage obtained by GR official
Just wow.. a startling, minute by minute account of a #pushback in the Aegean by Greek coast guard. Recorded by themselves. Migration minister and Frontex boss Leggeri have a lot of explaining to do. Detailed report in soon...
Good news on this case :) I am told the group is safe and have been brought to the town of Feres by Greek authorities.
