    Possible answer: all mainstream/popular algorithm text books are single-data-stream oriented, most students never heard about SIMD, SIMD in the wild used to be a niche, SIMD is not obvious (except obvious cases). No knowledge => no widespread adaptation. But this is changing.

    I’m still pretty shocked they SIMD isn’t used more often. This will bring some nice speed ups.

    In “Thinking, Fast and Slow” Kahneman describes the different lenses he and his adversary Klein had... which they only learned about when they collaborated. I found this chapter fascinating

    Chapter 22 Expert Intuition: When Can We Trust It? Professional controversies bring out the worst in academics. Scientific journals occasionally publish exchanges, often beginning with someone’s critique of another’s research, followed by a reply and a rejoinder. I have always thought that these exchanges are a waste of time.
    have never found the hostile exchanges instructive. My most satisfying and productive adversarial collaboration was with Gary Klein, the intellectual leader of an association of scholars and practitioners who do not like the kind of work I do.
    We eventually concluded that our disagreement was due in part to the fact that we had different experts in mind. Not surprisingly, his default attitude was trust and respect; mine was skepticism.
    However, we also found that our early differences were more than an intellectual disagreement. We had different attitudes, emotions, and tastes, and those changed remarkably little over the years. This is most obvious in the facts that we find amusing and interesting.
    Finally back into Kahneman. I really enjoyed the story about his “adversarial collaboration” with Gary Klein. When working together they realized that they disagreed less than expected but had different attitudes, emotions and tastes.

    इसी दौर में मैंने उन्हें रिसर्च में व्यस्त देख, ईर्ष्यावश मुख से निकला, "मेरी भी कामना है की कुछ रिसर्च करूँ। जी जान लगा दूंगा, पागल हो जाऊँगा". यह सुन, बिना सर घुमाये श्रीमती ने व्यंग्यपूर्वक भाव में उत्तर दिया, "हाँ, वह तो तुम ज़रूर हो जाते।".

    Okay so fellow developers... it turned out everyone of us, working in tech, need to behave nicely to my spouse. I know that she believes I am a developer...and...!!gulp!! I overheard her, referring to Wordpress developers as "Developers". 😂😜

    The more I read about core-js (11k stars on Github, $50 per month from donations, commits basically every day for the last 5 years) the more glad I am that I never actually went into open source

    But really the biggest deal is that Rust forces you (in a nice way!) to look at all corner cases (errors, mem management) of your code and gently nudges you towards perfection. The feeling of finishing the code and knowing it covers all errors, and is super fast, is fantastic.

    My first impressions of after having spent about 5 hours writing a small module: It makes me excited to code in, but for different reasons than other languages excite me. Coding in Rust appeals strongly to perfectionism.
