  3. I have found the following items out in the woods in the past two weeks: - brand-new pair of socks - Patagonia fleece gloves, used - women's blouse - women's hoodie All nice (if muddy) stuff. And all of it fits me. 😳

  7. Hemitrichia, a slime mold. The ones with the poofy orange "hair" are fully developed & are releasing their spores. Good job, lil sporangia! Make more of your adorable selves! 13/13

  8. I went back to photograph the slime molds from last Sunday. They're in a dreadfully difficult spot to photograph - super dark and just a couple inches above ground level. I've got some ideas though for next time I visit. 12/

  11. Bleeding Fairy Helmet (Mycena haematopus) doing their thing. This one is pretty old, so it's not "bleeding" much. Fresher ones are bleedier. 9/

  12. Eggs found under a log. Maybe millipede eggs, given the scat in the foreground there. Or centipede, snail, slug? 8/

  13. Spider found under the same piece of bark. I tucked them back into the dark, wet leaf litter after snapping a couple of quick photos. 7/

  15. Last summer someone tossed the log into a creek bed. I moved it back before the rainy season started, and I'm glad I did. The Ensatinas are sheltering under it again too. Anyway, please enjoy this photograph of a pooping millipede, and remember to let sleeping logs lie. 5/

  16. Our friend Bad Bad Roundboi Brown (Tylobolus castaneus.) The log I found her under is one I've been checking for going on 3 years now. It's a good log, with underground burrows that surface beneath it. A popular hangout spot for Ensatinas and a variety of millipedes. 4/

  19. From this morning in : I was so excited to see this Ensatina salamander that I didn't even notice the juvenile hanging out next to his tail. 😅 1/

Listen y’all stop killing people’s vibe on here. If someone has a cool experience in nature for the first time, don’t jump in talking bout some “This happens all the time” or “This is extremely common” CELEBRATE WITH THEM. ADD TO THEIR KNOWLEDGE IN A NOT-BUZZ-KILLING-WAY.

A coyote and a badger use a culvert as a wildlife crossing to pass under a busy California highway together. Coyotes and badgers are known to hunt together. 🎥Peninsula Open Space Trust
