something particularly annoying about modern leftists is their usage of the words exploitation and alienation. they love to use these terms in marxist contexts but use the common definitions, not the very specific marxist definitions. very dishonest.

modernity is alienating. people's shit jobs are part of that. the banking system is incredibly alienating. corporate bureaucracies are alienating. etc. sorta parts of capitalism... it's not just "they don't get to decide what they make"... its the whole ball of wax.
-
the marxist definition is specifically about workers being seperated from control of their labor. would anything you mention be ameliorated under collective ownership? no.
-
obviously not. it's fuckin alienating tho isn't it?

you can be correct in diagnosis and wrong in cure

if a hypothesis claims a root cause, and directly addressing that cause changes nothing, the premise is wrong. my point is that the common usage of "alienation" is not the same as the marxist concept. modernity is alienating, but not by marx's definition of the term.
