The idea of Americans wanting LKY in their lives is always amusing to me

Why?

Culture mismatch. Most Americans would not be able to stomach him or his policies; they would find him oppressive

the quality of places like NYC and SF justify a desire for effective management. however the fact that people gladly shove themselves into those hellpits proves you completely correct.

Every Singaporean man has to serve 2 years of mandatory national service and still has subsequent reservist liability Mandatory savings you can’t use Death penalty for drugs Protests and assembly heavily regulated Media heavily regulated I’d love to see
try some LKY

But the reality of it is that someone like LKY simply wouldn’t happen in USA. If LKY were transplanted into the US system he would have to use a completely different approach, and likely wouldn’t be able to get much done. Context is everything

sinagpore couldn't function if it were filled with americans either. we're just a different breed with different priorities. we value personal independence too highly. that's not a bad thing but it does seem to doom us to absymal city governance at the moment.

I don't however think it means we can never have better cities. We can't copy the exacts of singapore's corporate governance but we can probably copy the form. Whether it's possible to convince americans to abolish the franchise in cities is the big Q.
