holy shit just now realizing we've had a breakthrough in ultra-low temperature freezer development driven by the need to chill vaccines to -80C. compressor-less stirling engine helium freezers can now be had for like $5k. holy shit.

incidentally it seems like the HVAC world is settling on a successor to R134a (Freon) which is... R290 (Propane!!). It was sitting under our noses this whole time!!
